How to Perform a Seamless Apple ID Password Reset

Reset Apple ID Password on iPhone/iPad

If you enabled two-factor Authentication when creating your Apple ID, you can reset your password only from a trusted iOS device with a passcode that’s enabled.

Step 1. Launch Settings app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Step 2. Tap “Your Name > Password & Security > Change Password”.

Step 3. Follow the onscreen steps to update your password.

Note: The two-factor authentication method of resetting Apple ID password only works if you can access the backup device. If you can’t access these devices, you will not be able to reset your password.
Reset Apple ID Password with Email and Security Question

If you chose to verify your identity with email or answers to the security questions when resetting your Apple ID password, then you can follow these steps to reset your password.

Step 1. Go to the Apple ID account page on your Mac or iOS device browser, and click “Forgot Apple ID or password”.

Step 2. Enter your Apple ID, and select the option to reset your password and click “Continue”.

Step 3. Choose a way to reset your password:

If you chose “Answer Security Questions”, then provide the answers and proceed to the next step.

If you chose “Get an email”, then proceed to your primary rescue email address, and follow up from there with the email sent to you to recover your password.

Step 4. Create a new password and confirm the password.

Note: If you forgot the answers to your security questions, or can’t access your backup email, you won’t be able to reset your Apple ID password.
Apple ID Password Reset Using Two-Step Verification

The two-step verification is the most sophisticated identity verification process when resetting Apple ID password. It always requires you to provide the recovery key and a verification code.

Step 1. Go to Apple ID account page on your browser, and click “Forgot Apple ID or password”.

Step 2. Enter your Apple ID and select the option to reset password. Then click “Continue”.

Step 3. Enter your recovery key for two-step verification (this is the key provided when you enabled 2-step verification while creating the Apple ID).

Step 4. Choose a device where we can send a verification code.

Step 5. Enter the verification code.

Step 6. Create the new password and tap “Reset Password” to complete the process.

Note: You may not be able to reset your Apple ID password if you can’t provide any of the requirements.

Qixun Zhao (@S0rryMybad) releases PoC of Chaos vulnerability for iOS 12.1.1

QIXUN ZHAO MAKES CHAOS PROOF-OF-CONCEPT PUBLIC

In November 2018, Qixun Zhao aka S0rryMybad demonstrated a remote jailbreak on A12 devices at the TianfuCup PWN Contest.

Termed “Chaos”, this kernel vulnerability discovered by Zhao can be triggered directly in the sandbox.

Since this vulnerability allows RCE (Remote Code Execution), we can trigger it from the mobile Safari web browser, thus jailbreaking the device remotely.

S0rryMybad also posted a video of the remote jailbreak he developed on the Chinese website Youku. We have reposted the video from his Youku account on Twitter.

The video showcases a remote jailbreak running on two iPhone XS devices. The hacker then opens the jailbreak website (192.168.1.52) that injects the exploit and then resprings the device in the jailbreak mode.

After successfully jailbreaking the iPhones, S0rryMybad proceeds to launch Mobile Terminal, which confirms that the hacker has gained root access on iOS 12.1.1 firmware.
HOW THE CHAOS KERNEL VULNERABILITY WORKS

The iOS kernel contains a component called MIG, generated automatically by the .defs file.

Generally, MIG performs inter-core object conversion and object reference count management, and then calls kernel methods.

If the firmware developer is not familiar with MIG management, improper management of the reference counts of kernel objects can leak the reference counts, allowing hackers to circumvent the defenses.Sponsor ads:

Although the proof-of-concept for Chaos vulnerability is now public, Qixun has made it very clear that he doesn’t intend to make the exploit source code public.

If developers are keen on developing an iOS 12 jailbreak, they will have to put the pieces of the puzzle together and complete the exploit on their own.

This also includes the post-exploitation code that developers use in the later stages of jailbreak development.
WHAT NEXT FOR THE JAILBREAK COMMUNITY?

According to Tihmstar, we can use the Chaos proof-of-concept to develop an exploit for iOS 12.1.1 and below versions.

This can be achieved by copy-pasting the PoC in v0rtex exploit for iOS 10.3.3, replacing some of the code from jelbrektime, and then adding the correct offsets.

Since Apple is still signing iOS 12.1.1 firmware, I highly recommend jumping on it before the signing window shuts – if and only if you are on a higher version.

Now that iOS 12.1.3 final update is out, fire up iTunes and download the iOS 12.1.1 (final) IPSW firmware file.

Apple releases iOS 12.1.3 (final) with iMessage bug fixes and more

WHAT’S NEW IN IOS 12.1.3?

A few weeks after releasing iOS 12.1.2 with eSim fix, Apple has seeded its successor – iOS 12.1.3 – to the general public.

Its build number is 16D6039 and it weighs around 300MB for all compatible devices.

Here’s the complete list of changes and enhancements that this update introduces –

Fixes a bug in iMessage that affects scrolling in photos in the “Details” view.

Fixes a bug in iMessage where stripes appeared on photos after being sent.

Fixes the issue that causes audio distortion while using external audio input devices on the iPad Pro (2018).

Fixes the issue that causes a few CarPlay systems to disconnect from iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR.

Fixes an issue that may cause the HomePod to reboot.

Fixes a bug that causes Siri to stop listening.

Here’s how you can upgrade your device to iOS 12.1.3 –

Open the stock Settings app.

Go to General > Software Update.

Wait for your Apple device to fetch the latest download version from Apple’s servers. Once the screen displays the latest version. tap Download to start the download.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade.

Alternatively, you can manually upgrade your iPhone, iPad or iPod by downloading the compatible IPSW firmware using the links below.

In addition, Apple has released an update for Apple TV – tvOS 12.1.2. Just like its iOS counterpart, this update too comes with bug fixes and enhancements and is devoid of any new features.

Apple Watch and Mac have also received new updates – watchOS 5.1.3 and macOS Mojave 10.14.3.

Final updates are definitely worth upgrading since they come loaded with a multitude of bug fixes. Apparently, it fixes the WiFi drop issue that has been plaguing users for several weeks now.

If you are on iOS 12.1.2 or any of the previous beta updates of iOS 12.1.3, I highly suggest upgrading your device to the latest update as soon as possible.

If, however, you are an avid jailbreaker, keep your hands off of the latest update if you wish to jailbreak your device in the future.

How To Keep Your Apple Notes Organized

Take Advantage of Notes Folders

Just like you use folders on your computer to organize documents, images, and other files, you can use them in the Notes app for the same reason.
Add Folders

On your iPhone or iPad, you can create a new folder with a tap. Open the Notes app and make sure you’re on the main Folders screen.

Tap New Folder on the bottom right.

Give your folder a meaningful name.

Tap Save.

On your Mac, it’s just as easy. Open the Notes app and be sure the Folders sidebar on the left is open. If not, click the Show Folders button in the toolbar.

At the bottom of the list, click New Folder.

Give your folder a meaningful name.

Hit the Enter

Alternatively on Mac, you can select File > New Folder from the menu bar.

Move Folders

Mac lets you nest folders within other folders in the Notes app. This is an excellent way to organize tasks for a project or categories for a topic.

Select the folder that you want to move inside of another. Drag the folder over the top of the new parent folder and release. You can then collapse the parent folder and expand it again to see those notes nested within it.

If you want to move the folder back to its original spot, just drag it out of the parent folder.
Rename Folders

Giving your older folders new names might be a way that you want to better organize the app. You can rename folders on both iOS and Mac.

On iPhone or iPad, head to the main Folders screen.

Tap Edit from the top right.

Select the folder you want to rename.

Enter the new folder name.

Tap Save.

On Mac, you can rename a folder using the following methods:

Right-click the folder name and select Rename Folder.

Hold the Control key, click the folder name, and select Rename Folder.

Click the folder name twice – slowly, type the new name, hit Enter.

Delete Folders

If you end up with a folder you decide that you don’t need after all, you can delete it just as easily as you created it.

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Notes app to the main Folder screen.

Tap Edit from the top right.

Mark the folder you want to remove.

Tap Delete on the bottom right.

Instead, you can swipe the folder from right to left on the main Folders screen and tap Delete when it appears.

On your Mac, you have a few different ways to delete a folder:

Right-click the folder name and select Delete Folder.

Hold the Control key, click the folder name, and select Delete Folder.

Select the folder and from the menu bar click Edit > Delete.

Pin Notes You Use Often

When you Pin a note, that note stays at the top of the list within that folder. This is a terrific way to access those notes that you need often.

On your iPhone or iPad, head to the folder containing the note you want to Pin. Slide the name of the note from right to left and tap the Pin icon when it appears.Sponsor ads:

Stay Organized

While the Apple Notes app may not offer robust organizing features like similar apps, these few tips will definitely help if your notes have gotten out of control.

If you have tricks for organizing the Notes app that have helped you and you’d like to share, feel free to comment below.
